(From Reveal News) A recent investigative report showed that Louisiana’s $40 million-a-year state-funded voucher program has spawned new private schools of questionable value. While public schools must meet rigorous standards and charters must face serious state scrutiny before being approved, dozens of new private schools in the Louisiana Scholarship Program faced barely a review from education officials before receiving public money. Not a single school in the voucher program received an A or B grade in the 2017-18 school year, according to the analysis. Scores are based only on testing voucher students (students not on vouchers are not tested). Critics argue that students are at risk when private schools that accept vouchers aren't put through the same scrutiny as charter and public schools.
