A national publishing and media competition has honored NBOA's Net Assets magazine with the highest award in the category of general excellence for nonprofit association magazines with circulations of 10,000 or fewer. This is Net Assets' first "gold" in Association Media & Publishing's Excel Awards, which received 834 entries for the 2017 competition. In 2014, 2015 and 2016, the NBOA member-only magazine covering independent school business best practices received silver awards for single-topic issues. The awards were announced June 26 at the 2017 Annual Meeting of Association Media & Publishing, which was founded in 1963. The three award-winning issues of Net Assets submitted for the competition focused on risk management at K-12 independent schools (including international travel programs), technology (including the growing threat of ransomware to school data), and enrollment management (including the apparent rise among bullying parents). Signed-in NBOA members can read the full issues online and find more mobile-friendly feature articles from these and other issues of the magazine on NetAssets.org.
NBOA's small in-house communications team in Washington, D.C., produces Net Assets six times a year. Jessica Feirtag of Blue House, a talented graphic design agency also in Washington, is design director. Speaking of awards: Read about NBOA's latest round of award-winning business officers in the 2017 NBOA Will J. Hancock Unsung Heroes, and a short profile of award recipient Lisa Carbone Warren. More profiles will be posted in the weeks ahead.
